Leading UK Decorating Supply Company Chooses Wyse Cloud Client Computing to Deliver Improved Supply Chain Management and Customer Service

Brewers Upgrades its Backend IT Infrastructure and Retail Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) Systems from HQs to 130 Branches across UK

Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, today announced that Brewers, the UK's largest independent supplier of decorating materials, is implementing new in-store desktop systems with Wyse Windows Embedded Standard 7 thin clients.  The Wyse solution will enable Brewers to further enhance the quality of the electronic point of sale (EPOS), stock management and backend applications available to staff and support the high standards of customer service delivered throughout its branches.

Brewers is the country’s largest independent merchant that stocks and supplies all brands of paint, wallpaper and a vast array of accessories and sundries. There are over 130 branches covering the South of England, East Anglia and the Midlands.

In conjunction with plans for a new EPOS solution, Brewers decided to upgrade the existing Wyse thin clients used in each of its branches. The key requirement was that the new thin clients needed to provide a long term platform for any future changes in software.

Brewers selected a state of the art thin client solution based on the new Wyse C90LEW thin client with Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES7) and support for rich multimedia and video.  This will enable Brewers to implement new retail and stock management applications that are more intuitive and versatile for counter sales and back office staff.  The new clients are built to a more compact and greener design that saves on counter space and power consumption.

The new infrastructure will be easier to manage and maintain because the solution includes Wyse Device Manager (WDM) Enterprise Edition, the leading management software for thin client devices. The software incorporates a new autogenic imaging feature that allows updates while the thin clients are in use, as well as eliminating the risk of damage due to network or power failure during updates.

As Brewers grows its branch network, they will be able to take advantage of the improved plug-and-play functionality of the new thin clients, simplifying how new branch IT is rolled out in each new location nationwide.

David Relf, IT manager, Brewers said: “We’ve always been impressed with the reliability and performance  of Wyse cloud client computing solutions and implementing WES7 will enable us to deliver the full benefits of Windows 7 to our end users in the 130-plus branch network.”

David Angwin, director of marketing, EMEA, Wyse said:  “We’re excited that Brewers is embracing our WES7 solution as a strategic platform for their core in-branch retail and stock management applications.  Windows 7 offers enterprises compelling advantages and our solution lets them harness the power of the new OS on virtual desktops that are simpler to manage and support across smallest to the largest organisations.”

The new thin client infrastructure is being rolled out across the branch network.
