Wyse Technology Announces Support of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2

Wyse Virtual Desktops to Support Latest ICA and RDP Clients and VMware ViewTM Client Certification

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced that Wyse devices now support Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2, Microsoft's componentized, real-time operating system for small-footprint embedded solutions.  The announcement was made today in Cannes, France at VMworld Europe 2009.

"Our support of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 takes the performance of our virtual desktop devices to new levels, and demonstrates our continuing innovation in addressing the embedded market," said Jeff McNaught, Chief Marketing Officer at Wyse. "We have taken the key benefits of our existing devices, and added new performance features and a seamless transition path to quickly meet market demand."

Specific features enabled by Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 include:

• Familiar user interface - Enhanced Windows-like user interface will allow customers to discover and use the operating system functionalities in a more effective and productive manner.

• Updated connectivity components, VMware Ready® Certified status for VMware ViewTM and support for the latest ICA and RDP clients  - This support for the latest versions of the ICA and RDP connection protocols and virtualization technology (VMware View) gives customers one of the best desktop replacement experiences on the market.

• Improved security – The improvements to RDP 6.0, which supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols, and Internet Explorer 6.0 help to decrease the chance of eavesdropping and data tampering in devices built on Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2. These enhancements provide an increased level of confidence for customers using product build on Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2.

"Microsoft is proud to be working with Wyse to further innovation in the embedded market," said David Wurster, Windows Embedded CE Product Manager, Microsoft Corp. “By incorporating support for our latest version of the Windows Embedded CE product line, Wyse will be able to continue creating smart, connected, service-oriented devices, bringing an enhanced user experience to the virtual desktop."

"We continue to work closely with Wyse to give our joint customers the best end user experience and today's announcement underscores that commitment," said Jerry Chan, Senior Director of Desktop Virtualization, VMware. "VMware and Wyse are providing customers with more incentive than ever to take advantage of the lower TCO inherent in virtual desktops."

Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 will be available on Wyse devices in mid June.
