Wyse Announces New Desktop Virtualization Software Enhancing its Thin Computing Software Portfolio

New Wyse TCX USB Virtualizer(TM) Enables 'Plug and Play' Peripheral Use for Thin Virtual Desktops - Another First in the Thin Computing Industry

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced the availability of Wyse TCX Virtualizer(TM) -- a breakthrough software solution that enables users to connect and use USB devices in a virtualized desktop environment as easily as a traditional PC. As a result, Wyse thin client users can now access hundreds of USB 1.1/2.0 devices including printers, scanners, storage devices, Palm(R), BlackBerry(TM), Apple(R), and Microsoft(R) Pocket PC hand helds over a Citrix(R) XenDesktop or VMware(R) Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment.

Wyse TCX Virtualizer consists of server and client software components that work together to enable USB devices within a virtualized desktop environment. With this product, users simply connect authorized USB based-peripherals to the thin client -- no local driver required. The appropriate driver is installed at the server and manages the functionality of the peripheral, greatly enhancing the user experience. This gives users more simplicity, flexibility and options when rolling-out thin client implementations.

"This is a key component of our desktop virtualization strategy," said Curt Schwebke, Chief Technology Officer for Wyse Technology, Inc. "TCX USB Virtualizer enables USB peripheral support that's been impossible in the past -- with it, users just plug in approved peripherals, and get to work -- no need to try to install a driver on the desktop -- it's automatically done at the server -- under IT control. Add this to our recently announced solutions for multiple displays and multimedia, and the desktop virtualization experience is quickly approaching that associated with a PC. Others can manufacture thin clients but only Wyse builds solutions."

The range of peripherals supported by Wyse TCX USB Virtualizer is very broad. Wyse TCX USB Virtualizer provides thin client users with ubiquitous and dynamic enterprise connectivity to vital information, content and services, while still adhering to stringent IT policies and guidelines. The software works seamlessly to locate the USB devices as they are plugged directly into the virtualized desktop environment.

"Desktop thin clients combined with virtual PCs has positive potential for both users and IT management," said John Sloan, Senior Analyst with Info-Tech Research Group. "The enterprise gets a more streamlined, centrally managed infrastructure while users retain access to a full PC environment. That environment can now include local plug and play peripherals for full flexibility. A key consideration in any IT deployment is to minimize user impact while maximizing the end experience."

"By using TCX USB Virtualizer we're able to dramatically streamline and improve our IT procedures," said William Lewkowski, Chief Information Officer at Metro Health Hospital. "The software gives our users a dynamic way of accessing information without it posing an administrative headache or compromising security. They now get a plug and play experience from their USB devices once connected directly to our virtualized PC without needing any manual configuration from the IT department. It really simplifies things and we definitely plan on using it moving forward."

Wyse TCX Virtualizer is available immediately priced at $25.00 per-seat. For more information on how Wyse TCX Virtualizer can enrich any thin computing environment visit http://www.wyse.com/products/software.
