Wyse Announces New Integrated Software Architecture for Thin Computing
Combination of Advanced Wyse Thin OS, Application and Operating System Streaming and Thin Infrastructure Management extends Wyse leadership in Thin Computing... Wyse Thin Computing Solutions Support IBM Virtualized Hosted Client Infrastructure; Wyse to Join IBM Blade Center Alliance Program
SAN JOSE, Calif. –
02/11/2005 -
Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced its new suite of software solutions designed to deliver the most comprehensive portfolio of products targeted to extend the thin experience to the desktop. In addition, Wyse is announcing support for the IBM Virtualized Hosted Client Infrastructure and that the company is joining the IBM BladeCenter Alliance Program.
The integration of the Wyse software solution suite with its industry-leading thin clients enables extension of the thin computing value propositioncost efficiency, reliability, manageability and security broadly across user types, requirements and functionality. Given the proliferation of software vulnerabilities and the need to adhere to regulatory guidelines, IT organizations are being pushed for greater control over the desktop software users within already constrained IT budgets. Leveraging its market leading hardware platform for thin computing, Wyse introduces a new software architecture for thin computing. This new architecture extends the value of thin computing to additional desktops in the enterprise and includes the following integrated components:
Wyse Thin Operating Environment (Wyse Thin OS)--The industry's fastest operating system for thin clients delivers the benefits of thin computing with the best price-performance. Wyse Thin OS is already delivering the benefits of thin computing to hundreds of thousands of desktops across Global 500 enterprises. Wyse Streaming Manager (WSM)--WSM is the first product to deliver complete desktop software environments on demand to stateless thin-computing devices. By streaming both operating systems and applications, independently but through a single, unified solution, WSM delivers the power and flexibility of a standard desktop PC that end users demand on a thin client while fulfilling the TCO, manageability and security requirements of IT administrators. Wyse Device Manager (WDM)--WDM complements the overall strength of the Wyse Technology product line by giving the IT administrators the tools needed to manage a thin-client deployment. The innovative design of Wyse Device Manager centrally controls thin devices, whether local or remote, wired or mobile, desktop or handheld. The Wyse Device Manager optimizes device discovery, software distribution operations, and scheduled updates on network attached devices with local storage. It's designed to manage the embedded operating systems and local applications resident on the thin clients themselves, while leveraging existing investment in infrastructure management frameworks managing thick client desktop environments.
"Wyse has helped 24 Hour Fitness reduce our computing TCO to the lowest level possible with comprehensive and scalable device management software," said Bill Donohue, CIO, 24 Hour Fitness. "Deploying a successful thin client architecture requires a serious set of management tools, including asset management, configuration management and device firmware management, and Wyse has delivered on each of these key components." "A strategy that recognizes the value of thin computing eliminates the complexities of the desktop and centralizes the total management of the operating environment for the IT department," said Ricardo Antuna, Vice President of Business Line Management. "Wyse's new software architecture for thin computing extends the benefits of thin clients to more desktops improving security, manageability and cost of ownership without compromising performance." "Thin client solutions will play an important role in delivering the benefits of IBM's Virtualized Hosted Client Infrastructure," said Juhi Jotwani, Director of Solutions and Alliances, xSeries and BladeCenter Division, IBM Systems and Technology Group. "We are pleased that companies like Wyse are part of the hosted client solution ecosystem because thin-client solutions can provide additional benefits to customers deploying our virtualized hosted client solution."
